PROJECT OVERVIEW

Prime Creative Arts Centre is a major civic and cultural development near Basseterre, St. Kitts & Nevis. Designed as a multifunctional destination for culture, education, community services and leisure, the development will provide a dedicated setting for artistic expression while supporting the wider cultural and tourism ambitions of the island.

SITE & CONTEXT

Located in the vicinity of Basseterre, the project sits along the outer perimeter of the Royal Basseterre Valley National Nature Reserve. The site occupies a pronounced hillside ridge close to the coastline, within a varied volcanic landscape that plays an important role in shaping the development's architectural response.

PROJECT VISION

The development is envisioned as a vibrant destination for culture, work, education and leisure, while also providing a setting for medium- and large-scale events.

The programme includes amphitheatres and auditoriums for musical and dance performances, alongside spaces dedicated to coworking, community services, training and supporting activities. Its location beside the Royal Basseterre Valley National Nature Reserve also places particular importance on integration with the surrounding landscape and the preservation of its natural character.

DESIGN & CONSTRUCTION STRATEGY

The development combines reinforced concrete construction for foundations, retaining walls and lower structural elements with large-span laminated timber structures across the roofs and upper volumes.

The architecture responds directly to the site's steep topography through a stepped configuration designed to reduce deep excavation and integrate the different levels of the development into the hillside. Lightweight roof systems further support the complex geometry while limiting structural loads.

ENVIRONMENTAL APPROACH

Environmental considerations are integrated into the development through strategies including rainwater collection and reuse, together with the planned integration of solar energy systems. These measures complement the project's sensitive positioning alongside one of St. Kitts' important natural landscapes.
